Mary “Granny” Hines

Mary “Granny” Hines, age 76 of Ashley died Sunday, January 18, 2004 at The Arbors of Delaware.
She was born on April 21, 1927 in Norfolk, VA to the late Bernhardt and Lillian (Simmons) Dowe. She was a registered nurse formerly employed at Marion General Hospital and retired from the State of Ohio Women’s Reformatory in Marysville. Following retirement she assisted Recreation Unlimited.
An Ashley area resident of 45 years, she was a usher and avid OSU football fan, attended First Presbyterian Church of Delaware, assisted the American Cancer Society and helped with election poles in Ashley. She enjoyed helping others, the color purple, and watching birds. She loved the ocean, lighthouses, and flower gardening.
Survived by her children; Shirley Gusler of Ashley, Sharon Ruby of Delaware, Sindy (Tom) Kohler of Ashley, Mary (Tom) Martin of Waldo, John Hines of Fredericktown, Susan Lamb of Findlay, 10 Grandchildren, 4 Great-grandchildren, Sisters: Lucille (Chappie) Wilson and Betsy Powell of Norfolk, VA, Nancy Smith of Shelby, NC, Jeanne Robbins of Buffalo, NY, Close friend Jeannie Harsh of Fredericktown, other family members, friends, and her 3 pet cats.
Preceded in death by her former husband of 23 years; Edward J. Hines, son Stephen; grandson Adam; brother Sonny Dowe; and sister Aline Underhill.
Friends may call Wednesday 4-8 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware, where services will be held Thursday 11:00 a.m., Rev. Carol Weiss officiating.
