Mary Flora Harris

December 03, 1940 ‒ October 05, 2018

Marion, Ohio

Mary Flora Harris, age 77, of Marion, passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, October 5, 2018 at home.

Mary was born in Columbus, Ohio on December 3, 1940 to the late John and Helen (Creedon) Lyons and graduated from Central High School.

Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She was truly a wonderful woman.  She was united in marriage to the late Gene Alan Harris on March 4, 1959 at St. Ladislais’ Rectory by Rev. Riehl.  Mary and Gene spent 52 wonderful years together until his death on October 18, 2011.

Mary’s top priorities were God and her family.  Mary faithfully attended St. Mary Church in Marion where she was an active volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul.  Mary could often be found volunteering at The Sarah Moore House in Delaware where she coordinated BINGO.   In younger years, and after her family was raised, Mary worked for The State Tower 340 Vending helping those who had lost their sight find work.

To say Mary had a green-thumb was an understatement.  She could often be found in her yard planting flowers, bushes, and trees.  Making sure no one left hungry, there was always something delicious coming out of the kitchen.

Mary will be missed by children, Beverly (Eugene) Holsinger of Marion, Mark (Tammy) Harris of Washington, Debbie Harris of Columbus, and Mary (Denver) Piatt of Marion, along with grandchildren, James, Paul, Danielle, Justin, Christina, and Scott, and great-grandchildren, Thalyn Brooklyn, Antonio, Aidan, Felecity, Annabelle, Max, Lisa, Reese, Carmen, and Zoey.

Mary was preceded in death by parents, John and Helen; husband, Gene; son, James Floyd Harris; grandson, Eric; and brother, John Patrick Lyons.

An 11 am Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church, Thursday, October 11, 2018 with Thomas Buffer presiding.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church and burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Mary’s honor to Snyder Funeral Homes of Marion.

  • My thoughts and prayers are with all of Mary’s family. Mary and I were good friends for a number of years. Met at Holy Name and continued our friendship when we relocated. She was a sweet person. Sorry we will not be able to make the service but she will be on my mind. Thanks for letting me know.
