MARY EVELYN STALEY, 80, OF ASHLEY DIED THURSDAY AFTERNOON AT BENNINGTON GLEN IN MARENGO. SHE WAS BORN NOVEMBER 15, 1924 IN MORROW COUNTY, OHIO TO EUGENE WOOD AND DOROTHY (nee MOSHER) WOOD, AND LATER, STEPMOTHER FRANCES GREEN WOOD. SHE ATTENDED COUNTRY SCHOOLS UNTIL THE FAMILY MOVED TO FARMS NEAR THE ASHLEY AND MARENGO AREA. SHE GRADUATED FROM MARENGO HIGH SCHOOL. ON OCTOBER 27, 1945 SHE MARRIED DARREL A. STALEY AND THEY SETTLED ON A FARM NORTH OF WESTFIELD. IN 1972 THEY MOVED TO ASHLEY WHERE SHE WAS LIBRARIAN AT THE ASHLEY PUBLIC LIBRARY FOR 22 YEARS. SHE WAS A LONGTIME MEMBER OF THE ALUM CREEK FRIENDS CHURCH WHERE SHE WAS A SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER AND WORKER WITH CHILDREN. SHE WAS A FREE LANCE WRITER FOR RELIGIOUS PUBLICATIONS AND CONTRIBUTED TO DENOMINATIONAL CURRICULUM FOR GEORGE FOX PRESS, NEWBERG, OREGON. SHE IS SURVIVED BY A DAUGHTER, PEGGY ANNE WALTER OF WALDO; 2 SONS, JOEL ARTHUR (CANDY) STALEY OF WESTFIELD AND JONATHAN DARREL (PAMELA) STALEY OF ASHLEY; GRANDCHILDREN, MICHELLE (GREG) WALTER-ROSSER, STACEY (KEITH) WALTER-WILDE, MELINDA (JON) GOBLE, JASON (LINDA) STALEY, AND TAFFI (RICK) LEVINGS; GREATGRANDCHILDREN, PAUL, ETHAN, SEAN, AND REUBEN; STEPGREATGRANDCHILDREN, SARAH, RACHEL, NINA, TIFFANY, AND WHITNEY; BROTHER, ROGER L. WOOD OF EDISON; SISTERS, VIRGINIA HOUSTON AND MARJORIE HENRY OF MT. GILEAD. SHE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER HUSBAND DARREL ARTHUR STALEY NOVEMBER 26, 2000. FRIENDS MAY CALL AT THE RODMAN BENNETT BROWN FUNERAL HOME, 307 E. HIGH ST., ASHLEY ON SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 11, 2005 FROM 4 – 8 PM. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD ON MONDAY SEPTEMBER 12, 2005 AT THE ALUM CREEK FRIENDS CHURCH, 3385 OHIO 229 E, MARENGO, OHIO 43334 WITH REVS. JAMES BRANTINGHAM AND EDWIN JEFFRIES OFFICIATING. BURIAL WILL FOLLOW IN ALUM CREEK CEMETERY.
