Mary Elizabeth Cade Hoover, age 100, of Marion, died on Monday, March 5, 2018, at the Primrose Retirement Community.

On November 2, 1917, Mary was born in Canton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Robert S. and Bertha M. (Elkins) Cade.  She graduated from Canton-McKinley High School.

Shortly following graduation, Mary married a young man who was on leave from the U.S. Air Force, Technical Sergeant William D. “Bill” Hoover, on August 8, 1945.  They moved to Marion, Ohio, in 1946, where they shared thirty eight years of marriage and raised their four children.  He preceded her in death on June 9, 1984.

In addition to being a loving homemaker, Mary was influential in starting the kindergarten program at Pleasant Schools.  She also was a Girl Scout Leader and 4-H advisor for many years.

Mary was a faithful member of St. Mary Church, where she served on the church’s Social Concerns Commission.

She will be missed by her four children: Don (Lola Pryor) Hoover, Harley (Susan) Hoover, Diana (Steve Harsh) Hoffman, and Kathleen (Joseph) Tobin; eight grandchildren: Matt Hoffman, Chris Hoover, Michael (Shelby) Hoover, Sandy (Brent) Buckley, Sarah (Joe) Hickman, David (Tiffani) Tobin, Erick (Alison) Tobin, and Amanda (Ben) Thiel; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by four brothers: Paul Cade, Ben Cade, Bernard Cade, and Edward Ashbaugh.

Her family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, GUNDER/HALL Chapel, 347 W. Center St., Marion, where prayer services will be shared at 6:45 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be observed at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 9, 2018, at St. Mary Church (address below), with Father Thomas Buffer officiating.  Burial will follow in Pleasant Cemetery.
