Mary Catherine Van Romer, 98, of Mount Gilead, Ohio died Friday, March 4, 2005 in Woodside Village.

She was born in Kibby, Oklahoma on August 12, 1906, the daughter of the late William and Jeannie (Smith) French. She had resided in New Jersey, Salem, Virginia, and Anderson, SC, prior to moving here in 1999. She worked as a nurse’s assistant for the Alpine Nursing Home in Wayne, New Jersey until retiring. She was a member of the Salvation Army and loved to crochet.

She is survived by four sons Edward (Marilyn) Van Romer of Anderson, SC, Richard Van Romer of TN, Jim Van Romer of Anderson, SC, and Howard (Debbie) Van Romer of Mansfield, Ohio; a daughter Erma (Bill) Deetz of Anderson, SC; a former daughter-in-law Barbara Van Romer of Edison, Ohio; 22 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and a sister Mattie Cox of Yuma, Arizona.

Her husband Edward W. Van Romer, whom she married October 14, 1924, preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 1977. Daughters Vicky and Clara Van Romer, and brothers Howard, Sam, John, Lloyd and Joseph French also preceded her in death.

Pastor Brian Mosher will conduct funeral services on Monday, March 7, 2005 at 2 p.m. in the Gilead Friends Church. Friends may call one-hour prior to the services. Burial will be in East Ridgelawn Cemetery in Clifton, New Jersey.
