Mary Alice McCarty, age 87 of Marengo died Sunday May 27, 2001 at Riverside Hospital.

She was born on April 15, 1914 in Morrow County to the late Chauncey and Loetta (Wise) Babcock. A lifelong area resident and spent 19 winters in Ruskin, FL with her husband. Mary Alice had been a Deputy Registar of Morrow County, School bus driver for the Marengo Schools, Clerk for the Marengo Hardware & Grocery Store, a waitress and cook for the Porter’s and Leaf Restaurants and was a cashier for Topps Dept. Store in Ruskin, FL. Member of Marengo United Methodist Church, George L. Behrens Chapter #504 OES, Ladies Aux. of American Legion Post #710 & Centerburg AmVets Post #59, Pythian Sisters #501, Marengo, Golden Twigg of Morrow County Hospital.

She enjoyed bingo, flowers, playing cards, jokes, having fun and helping others.

Survived by Daughter: Vivian A. (Thomas) Matthews of Marengo, Sons: Robert L. (Grace) McCarty of Marengo, Ben (Bonnie) McCarty of New Carlisle, Kenneth N. (Faye) McCarty of Fallon, NV, Paul D. (Lois) McCarty of Marengo, 15 Grandchildren, 32 Great-grandchildren, 4 Great-great-grandchildren, Sister: Evelyn Barrick of Marengo, several nieces and nephews, special friend: Dale Traeger of Marengo

Preceded in death by husband: Deltus O. McCarty in 1991, Son: Melvyn in 1945, Great-grandson: Logan Albanese, Sisters: Fronia Manross, Florence Hart, Isabell Hardman, Brothers: William & Vaughn Babcock.

Friends may call Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR ‘s 3 at 61, Sunbury where funeral services will be held Thursday 11:00 a.m., Rev. Michael Olinger officiating. Interment Galena Cemetery.
