MANSFIELD: Mary A. Weaver, 84, of Mansfield, died Friday morning May 9, 2008 in her home following a long illness.

She was born March 13, 1924 in Bellville to Charles and Mildred (Grice) Showecker, and was graduated from Bellville High School in 1942.

She earned both her Bachelor’s of Science and her Master’s Degree in Education from Ashland University.

Mary taught fourth graders in Madison School’s Wooster Heights building for four years, before moving to Madison High School, where she taught in the reading lab another four years. She moved on to Pioneer Career & Technical Center, where she taught 20 years in the reading lab and supervised the special education unit. She retired from Pioneer in 1987. Her love of children and interest in helping young people were evident throughout her career.

A member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Mary taught Sunday school at the church.

She was a member of the Ohio and Richland County Retired Teachers Associations, and Ruth Chapter Order of Eastern Star.

A Mansfield resident, Mary had enjoyed golfing, boating on Pleasant Hill Lake, and escaping to a hideaway family cabin on the lake.

Remembered for her generous nature and giving ways, Mary delighted in her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband David Weaver, whom she married January 7, 1949; her daughter Deb Hauserman of Mansfield, her daughter and son-in-law Patti & Carmel Apap of Mansfield; grandchildren and their spouses Sherri & Michael Richter, Scott & Christine Hall, Rob Hauserman, Jodi & Ben Perry, Jamie Hauserman, Jason & Stacey Apap, and Alaina & Brandon Finkle; great grandchildren Trevor Hall, Kyle Hall, Libbie Perry, Bryce Goodwin, Ashtin Goodwin, Nick Apap, Joe Apap, Olivia Apap, Jessica Richter, Kristin Richter, and Justin Richter; and two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law Dorothy Wallace of Urbana and Janet and Richard Touvell of Columbus.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother James Showecker and a half sister Frieda Oberton.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 13, 2008 from 5-7 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Marilou Brook will officiate. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to St. Matthew Lutheran Church may be made at the funeral home.
