Mary A. Darst
January 11, 2019 ‒ February 18, 2006
Mary A. Darst, formerly of Fredericktown, Ohio, died on Saturday afternoon, February 18, 2006, at the Morrow Manor Nursing Home in Chesterville following a brief illness.
She was born in East Lynn, West Virginia, and raised in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of the late Jones and Georgia (Maynard) Adkins.
With great interest in traveling, Mary moved from Worthington, Ohio, to Dallas, Texas, where she lived for a short period of time, and to San Francisco, California, where she spent 12 years. She absolutely loved the city of San Francisco, often reminiscing about the atmosphere and climate.
Mary worked with her husband, Jacob, managing the Georgetown and DeGraw apartment complexes in the Columbus, Ohio, area until her retirement. She also managed beauty salon at the Livingston Brother’s Department Store, when she lived in San Fransisco.
A very selfless person, Mary will be remembered for how much she cared and gave of herself to family and friends. She was very “outgoing” and greatly enjoyed dining out with loved ones.
Mary is survived by her sister-in-law Georgette Adkins of Fredericktown; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Jacob Darst, on January 1, 1986; one son Richard “Dickey” Hoffner; four brothers Jerome, Astor, Audley, and Wallace; and two sisters Ruth Finley and June Foley.
Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 South Main Street, Mount Gilead, where funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m., with Pastor Bruce Hartley officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in Africa Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 182039, Dept. 013, Columbus, Ohio, 43218.
