Martin Caldwell, age 66, of Wooster Road, Howard, Ohio, departed this life to be with his Heavenly Father, Wednesday December 15, 2004 at Med Central Mansfield Hospital after an extended illness. He was born on July 22, 1938 in Ranger, West Virginia to Virgil and Dova (Staley) Caldwell. He was a member of the Fairview Free Will Baptist Church. Martin loved talking to everyone he knew about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He had spent the last 27 years in Knox County. Most will remember Martin from being at Lin’s Drive Inn in Amity from 1985 to 1997. He enjoyed fishing, which gained him the nickname “catfish”. Martin enjoyed playing the guitar and harmonica until his illness no longer permitted him to do so.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Linda (Wiley) Caldwell whom he married October 25, 1958 in Ashland, Ohio. Also surviving are two sons, Joseph (Marsha) Caldwell of Constantine, Michigan, Todd Caldwell of Sturgis, Michigan, three daughters, Angela Harris of Newark, Myra (Jason) Shellenbarger of Mount Vernon, Lynnette (Vernon) Snoddy of Hayesville, Ohio, 11 grandchildren, Joey II, Joshua and Jeremiah Caldwell, Jennifer (Brad) Bright, Shannon and Sabrina Pearson, Sheyenne Shellenbarger, Tameika and Tyeisha Harris, Tyler and Trevor Snoddy and a great granddaughter Cyrah Ann Bright who completed the family circle. Martin also leaves behind three brothers, LD Caldwell and Thurman Caldwell both of Michigan, Kenon Caldwell of Florida, two sisters, Narmie Mae Griffith of West Virginia and Charlotte Sias of Tennessee.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Myra Caldwell.
Friends may call on Friday from 5 to 8 PM at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 AM. Rev. Frankie Frye will be officiating. A private burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery.
