On July 23, 2012, Martha Jean Stith Jones passed from her Earthly life to eternal life as promised by her savior Jesus Christ in John 11:25,26. She was born at home in Sunbury on March 18, 1938 to Larue and Margery Stith, and lived in the Sunbury area her entire life.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, John C. Jones, whom she married on October 5, 1956. Also surviving are her daughter Kelly Kahrmann (Kyle) and her son Brian D. Jones (Wendy); grandsons Kory (Ariel) Kahrmann and Jonathan Kahrmann, and Kory’s step-daughters Abigail and Ava; granddaughters Noelle and Claire Jones; brother Fred Stith (Kathleen), sisters-in-law Janet Jones Esmail and Norma Jones Starbuck, several cousins and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her best friend Nugget, her golden retriever. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Marty was baptized into membership of the Sunbury First Baptist Church on April 23, 1944, became a Sunday School teacher at sixteen and served in many offices over the years, including Sunday School superintendent, children’s choir director, and youth leader. She made thirteen working and teaching mission trips to Haiti, and numerous working mission trips to Bacone College in Oklahoma, which serves the Native American community.

Marty was educated in the Sunbury and Big Walnut schools, graduating in 1956. In 1980 she returned to school and became a licensed LPN, and worked for several years in local nursing homes.

Marty’s joys were fishing and watching wildlife. She spent many summers at her cottage near Whitefish Falls, Ontario, which was her second home. While there she was an active congregant at Calvary Baptist Church in Espanola.

The family will receive friends from 9:00-11:00 am, Saturday, July 28, at Sunbury First Baptist Church, 12259 North Old 3C Highway, Sunbury, followed by a celebration of Marty’s life at 11:00 am. Inurnment will follow in Sunbury Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marty’s memory may be made to Sunbury First Baptist Church, Delaware County Humane Society, Canine Companions for Independence, or Big Walnut Friends Who Share.
