Martha A. (Dye) Rease
March 27, 1933 ‒ March 16, 2021
Martha A. (Dye) Rease, age 87, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at the Community Care and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.
On March 27, 1933, Martha was born in Stanford, Kentucky, one of ten children of the late Mary “Maggie” (Adams) Dye Burke. After recent DNA testing, she was excited to learn about her biological father, Overton “Obe” King, and connect with his family.
In 1946, Martha moved with her brother, John E. Dye, to Marion, Ohio, where she quickly found work at the H & H Restaurant. She worked there for many years, until the owners and her good friends, Kenny (Connie) Barzachinni, had her work at another restaurant of theirs, the Scotch and Sirloin. She helped however she could at their restaurants. Lastly, she worked at the Maplewood Nursing Home for many years, until her retirement.
Having a heart of gold, Martha was a loving caretaker for anyone in need and her door was always open. She cared for many family and friends over for years, including her mother, “Maggie” for 21 years, and her husband’s family members: Tommy Rease for 26 years and Susan “Gertie” Rease. Also, while she never had children, she loved caring for everyone else’s children as if they were her own.
In 1970, Martha married the love of her life, Frank Rease. They enjoyed twelve years of marriage together.
Very faithful, Martha was a member of the Richland Rd. Church of Christ.
Martha will be remembered as a sweet, caring woman, who would do anything for you. She was the type of person, if you needed a nickel, she would give you a dime. She often gladly gave more than she had.
She will be missed by her twin sister, Georgia Timmons; her half-sister, Ida Boettger; numerous nieces and nephews, including her loving niece and caretaker, Connie Timmons Kraner and her husband, Mark Kraner; and her beloved canine companion, her pug “Gigi”.
Including her husband and parents, Martha was preceded in death by eight siblings: Bill Dye, Mary Spears, George Dye, Bessy Knickhrem, John E. Dye, Erma Hildebrant, Arlen Dye, and Roy Lee Dye.
Her family will greet friends from 10-11 am, on Friday, March 19, 2021, at the Richland Rd. Church of Christ (address below). Services honoring her life will follow there at 11 am, with Russell Howard and her nephew, Dave Gladwell, officiating. Masks will be required for anyone in attendance at the church. If you aren’t able to attend, you can watch the livestream of her services via the church’s YouTube page (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCE1cE64-ypRj_f0g8PHdJtw). Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Richland Rd. Church of Christ, 535 Richland Rd, Marion, OH 43302.
On behalf of her family, they would to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to Kenny and Connie Barzachinni, who were always for Martha there when she needed anything. Also, to her niece, Debbie Dye Drake, who always looked out for Martha and helped make all the difficult decisions.
