Marla Fay Dayton, age 65, of Howard went to be with the Lord, Thursday, July 18, 2013. She was at home surrounded with family at her side after fighting a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Marla was born on December 1, 1947 in Caldwell, to the late Gaylord and Mary (Faulkner) Gardner.

Marla was a member of the Newark Road Church of Christ. She was employed by Kenyon College for 19 ½ years as a Registrar’s Assistant.

Marla is survived by her husband of 46 years, Larry E. Dayton; her three daughters, Deaunna (Dennis) Morgan, Loretta (Richard “Red”) Miller and Angela (Matthew) Roberts; grandchildren, Rachel (Caleb) Arnold, Daniel Morgan, Elizabeth Morgan, Levi, Aaron and Isaac Roberts; a brother, Gaylord Gardner Jr.; sisters, Dana (Roy) Ebie, Brenda (Randy) Truman and Carol (Paul) Gartman; sister-in-law, Janet (Earl) Carpenter; brother-in-law, John (Thelda) Dayton; aunts, Dana Turpin and Naiomi (Dick) Rinehart; and uncle, Dennis (Joan) Faulkner.

All who knew Marla knew her as a very kind and gentle person who put others first. Her ultimate trust in her battle with cancer came with a God knows best attitude.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Rd., Mount Vernon. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 22, 2013 at the Newark Road Church of Christ, 1200 Newark Rd., Mount Vernon. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service at the church. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery near Gambier.

Memorial contributions may be made to the James Cancer Hospital, 300 West 10th Ave., Columbus, OH 43210 for Ovarian Cancer Research.
