Mark A. McCumber

January 26, 1977 ‒ August 28, 2015

Ashley, Ohio

Mark. A. McCumber, age 38, of Ashley and formerly of Delaware, Ohio, died unexpectedly Friday, August 28, 2015, at home.

On January 26, 1977, Mark was born in Delaware, Ohio, the son of Alvin Wheeler and Diane McCumber.  He attended Delaware Hayes High School and Delaware Area Career Center, studying welding.

Mark had worked for several years in the construction industry; as well as a second-shift supervisor at Ohashi Technica in Sunbury.

Having a good heart, Mark would always help others in any way he knew how.  He had a quick wit, huge smile, and never met a stranger. He was an animal lover that cared deeply for animals, caring for many throughout his life; cats, dogs, and fish. He also enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.

He will be deeply missed by his children: Nicholas Fields and Josie McCumber; whose time with their father was cut far too short. He is survived by his father, Alvin Wheeler and mother, Diane McCumber; brother, Hubert (Jodi) Wheeler; sister, Sue Christian; step-brother Russell (Niki) Rider; and several nieces and nephews.

Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents who helped raise him, Mabel and Harold McCumber; and by his step-mother, Sharon Wheeler.

A memorial honoring Mark’s life will be observed on September 26th from 4pm-7pm at the Delaware. Fraternal Order of Eagles #376.

  • Though I haven’t seen Mark in years, news of his passing has hit me hard. Sometimes life is so unfair.
I met Mark through my former husband Earl when we were teenagers and I have many fond memories of our shenanigans as teens. Mark had an old Buick and would come up to my Dad’s in Johnsville with Andrea and my ex to stay the weekend. I remember once my ex showed, up courtesy of Mark, at my sister’s on valentines day to bring me flowers, and there are many other times i could mention where I know he went out of his way to be a good friend to both of us. I’m sorry that we drifted apart. Life just moves so fast. Mark always had a good heart, thats the one personality trait i remember most about him. I pray that God has embraced him and that his soul is at rest. Mark deserves that.
“For what is your life? It is but a vapor, that appears for awhile and then vanishes away” -James 4:15

  • Sorry to hear about Mark’s passing. We were great friends growing up but drifted apart as adults. I wish I could have linked up with him again but now won’t get the chance. RIP mark you will be missed.
