Mark A. Blank, age 57, of Delaware and formerly of Cardington, died suddenly early on Thursday, February 21, 2008, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Delaware County.

On December 5, 1950, Mark was born in Lima, Ohio, the youngest child of Robert and Elizabeth (Clark) Blank. A graduate of Elgin High School in the Class of 1970, he continued his education at Hocking Technical School and at Findlay College, where he participated in a hazardous waste management program. Mark served in both the Army Reserves and the Ohio National Guard.

Mark had been a resident of the Cardington area for 28 years, moving to Delaware this past June.

On May 6, 1978, he married his loving wife Corinne (Casteel) Blank at the Fargo Wesleyan Church. They met while she was a waitress at the former Dutch Pantry in Marion.

Mark began his career in construction inspection for Floyd Browne and Associates of Marion. Next, he worked in waste water management with the Mt. Gilead Waste Water Department and went on to work with the Ginosko Laboratory’s of Harpster as a lab technician. Currently, he was employed with the Delaware County Waste Water Management Department.

A member of the Gilead Friends Church for the past 25 years, he was actively involved in the Church Home Group, Hoops for Him, and served as a greeter.

Having a love for the ham radio, Mark was a member of the Morrow County Repeaters ham radio club, operating under the call letters KB8UXA. He was so dedicated to his radio club that he went as far as to put his call letters as his license plate tags.

Mark will be dearly missed by his wife, Corinne; son, Ryan (Molly) Blank of Mt. Gilead; daughter Karen Blank of Columbus; father and step-mother: Robert “Bob” and Millie Blank of Leipsic, Ohio; three brothers: David (Janet) Blank of Bluffton, Robert “Bob” (Marilyn) Blank of Pandora, Greg (Frances) Blank of Lorain; parents-in-law: Phillip and Karen Casteel of Marengo, two brothers-in-law: Phillip (Patricia) Casteel of Coldwater, MI, and Kevin (Lisa) Casteel of Cardington; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, friends, and ham radio friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Elizabeth Blank; and by his uncle, Joe Sabbe.

His family will greet friends on Sunday 4 – 7 p.m. in the Chapel at the Gilead Friends Church, 3613 Twp. Rd. 115 (SR 42), Mount Gilead, where services to celebrate his life well lived will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ron Ellyson officiating. Burial will follow in Gilead Friends Cemetery.
