Marjorie N. Humes

Marjorie N. (Brookens) Humes, 88, passed away early Tuesday morning, January 15, 2019 at the Willow Brook Christian Village in Delaware.
Marjorie was born March 22, 1930 to the late E. Lloyd and Loma (Tuller) Brookens in the same Kingston Township homestead as her father. She graduated from Brown Township High School in 1948. On September 23, 1950, she married her high school sweetheart, R. Dwight Humes, in the Kilbourne United Methodist Church.
She worked as a Deputy Auditor and Deputy Treasurer for Delaware County, as a cashier for the Delaware City Schools, and as an administrative assistant with Ohio Wesleyan University.
Marjorie and her husband, Dwight, moved to Greenville, SC in 1986 and in 1997, they retired to Hillsborough, NC to be nearer to their eldest daughter, Janice, and her family. They returned to Delaware in March of 2013, taking up residence at the Willow Brook Christian Village.
She was a member of the Delaware County Historical and Genealogical Societies, Daughters of the American Revolution, as well as Asbury United Methodist Church. Marjorie treasured time spent in her garden, golfing and being with her family. Proud of her family history, she was gifted with an incredible knowledge of family details. Marjorie was a true care provider, who was at her best when tracing the footsteps of her family history and accounts.
Marjorie is survived by two daughters, Janice (Michael) Walters of Chapel Hill, NC, and Jo Ann Humes of Columbus; two grandchildren, Erin (Angel) Oropeza of Houston, TX, and Joshua (Emily) Walters of Chapel Hill, NC; 5 great-grandchildren, Leah, Alex, and Lukas Oropeza of Houston, TX, Finley and Sutton Walters; brother, James (Evelyn) Brookens of Delaware, nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Dwight in 2014, brother Charles Brookens, and sister Eleanor Sheets.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive at W. William St., Delaware, with Reverend Philip Wilden of Asbury UMC officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the services. Burial will take place Tuesday 1:00 p.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery.
