  • Gene was one of the kindest people to ever cross our pathways of life…and his kindness was genuine and sincere. We cannot be with you all on Saturday because we have moved out of state but our thoughts and prayers will be with you. Our merciful and gracious Savior has provided for Gene in Heaven and has promised:
“…Death will no longer exist; grief, crying and pain will exist no longer, because the previous things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4
We will see you there again one day, Gene.

  • First knew Gene in 1972 when we he was on Village Council and I was ClerkTreasurer. He always cared deeply about the people of Sunbury. Always had a smile. He and my husband Glenn were good friends. They are having quite a time in heaven talking over old times. God speed you Gene

  • Gene was always there to help with car trouble and to be a friend. His smile and laugh gave us all a better day. His faith and how he treated everyone is a guide for all of us. Rest well friend.

  • Another pillar of Sunbury has passed on. Gene was always interesting and easy to talk with whether the topic was politics or life in general. He used to call me Jim and I didn’t correct him. Once his friend corrected him and I told him I didn’t mind the name Jim because my third great grandfather was named Jim Roberts. We had a good laugh. He contributed much to our community. He will be missed.

  • Sorry to hear this! Gene was one of the best men I ever met! He was always a kind , generous ! He was a one of the men I grew up with the upmost respect for!
    Rest easy gene

  • So sorry to hear this. Prayers going out to the family. Sunbury lost another community gem. Gene was always so kind and fun loving. Anytime I had car trouble as a teen I knew he would help me, and as a child Sue would put me to “work” in the store. Just to make me feel important. I felt at home with them. Heaven gained another angel that will be missed here on earth.

  • I along with my co-workers at Great Clips in Sunbury want to give you and your family our heart felt sympathy. Gene was one of our true regulars. He was always kind and very entertaining. May he rest in peace. We will miss your presence in our shop every month. Sincerely, The girls from Great Clips

  • I am so sorry to hear about Gene’s death. Gene was a good friend and we had many real good times at that gas station. Gene would give that little smile of his when people would tell him he should be ready to stop a fight between another good friend, Hi Morris and me.
We also had a lot of fun over age after somehow it got mentioned in the Sunbury News that Gene was the oldest man in Sunbury.
You never replace friends like Gene Sparks.

  • It’s people like Gene that made Sunbury what Sunbury is, a great place. The last time I saw him, he talked to me like I was the most important person he had ever met. He always talked to folks that way. He will be missed. Rest In Peace friend.

  • Gene was one the kindest, sweetest most caring person I’ve ever known. I worked with him over 20 years at the Village and he always took the time to show me the ropes when I was new and was always so patient. Heaven just received a true Angel!

  • Though I haven’t seen Gene in years, I think about him,and reminese the years before .
You see Gene was part of my family,he was

    Him .
