Marilyn Jean Yantis, 65, of Marion died late Thursday night, May 21, 2009 at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on October 19, 1943 in Marion, Ohio the daughter of the late Garland E. and Thelma L. (Rasey) Lines.
She was a lifelong resident of the Marion community where she worked for 40 years in local healthcare as a surgical technologist. She worked up until the day she was diagnosed with cancer and would have continued working if not for her health concerns.
She married William D. Yantis on December 31, 1993 in Pinellas Park, Florida.
While she enjoyed her flower garden and bowling you could sum her up in one simple phrase; “She lived for her work, her grandchildren, and her kids”.
Marilyn was a life member of the V.F.W.
She will be missed by her children Jeffrey (Cindy) Hopkins, Michelle (Bill) Rice, and Kathy (Guy) Bender all of Marion; two step-children Linda (Gil) Hierer of Avon Park, Florida and Catherine Yantis of Canal Winchester, Ohio; three sisters Carolyn Weaver of Clayton, North Carolina, Betty Bedabowski of Florida, and Ruth (Vernon) Gates of Marion; two brothers Thomas (Vera) Lines and Marion Lines both of Marion; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday May 26, 2009 at 4 p.m. at the 1st Presbyterian Church, 143 South Prospect, Marion, with Rev. J. David Worthen officiating. Friends may call on the family from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Private family graveside services will take place at a later date.
The family would like to extend our appreciation to all of her health care providers, including Marion Home Health and Marion General Hospice and a special thank you to Carolyn Weaver for her undying loyalty and loving care in our Mother’s final days.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nationwide Children’s Hospital, 700 Children’s Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43205, to be used for continued research in their ophthalmic department.
