December 07, 1933 ‒ February 05, 2011
MANSFIELD ~ If friendship is a treasured gift, then Marilyn Daugherty enriched a lot of lives. A lifelong Mansfield area resident, Marilyn knew that friends ~ and being a friend to others ~ was not a big thing, it was a million little things. And she lived her life with an open heart and gracious smile.
At the age of 77, Marilyn passed away Saturday morning February 5, 2011 in Alterra Sterling House.
Born December 7, 1933 in Mansfield, she was the daughter of Paul and Mary Lois (Bowman) Ammons, and was graduated from Perrysville High School in 1951.
At a community square dance she met Thomas M. Daugherty, and the two were married August 7, 1954. They were blessed with three children and Marilyn delighted in being a full-time wife and mother.
After their children were raised, Marilyn went to work in the family business Daugherty’s Restaurant and SOHIO Station on State Route 13 at Possum Run Road. She balanced her skills and talents of cooking, forging and maintaining friendships, and standing beside her husband Tom to support and benefit the company’s success.
Marilyn’s favorite pastimes were gardening, feeding hummingbirds and watching all the species of birds that would visit her feeders. She had a special place in her heart for her dog Princess and also will be always remembered as being “the best grandma”.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years Tom Daugherty; their children Mark & Teresa Daugherty of Mansfield, Michael Daugherty of Lexington and Shelly Smith of Bellville; grandchildren Mark & Dr. Amber Daugherty, Nick Daugherty and his fiancée Samantha Risinger, Alex Daugherty, Carly Daugherty and Jamie & Brandon Gearhart; great grandchildren Madison Gearhart, Landon Daugherty, Layla Daugherty and Drew Daugherty; half sisters Marsha (Max) Yeager of Cincinnati, Pat (Casper) Mergle of Mansfield; half brothers Ralph Ammons and Fritz Ammons both of Bellville, Paul Ammons, Jr. of McCutchenville, Steve Ammons of Lucas; sisters-in-law Wilma Ammons and Erma Ammons both of Mansfield; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Richard Ammons and Kaye Ammons, and half sisters Karen Shifflet and Laura France.
The Daugherty family will receive friends Tuesday, February 8, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Layman Larry Monroe will officiate. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
