MANSFIELD: Longtime Mansfield resident Marian R. Wittemire passed away peacefully June 9, 2011 in Columbus. She was 88.

Born Marian Ruth Mayers on January 8, 1923 in Kinsman, to George E. & Ruth E. (Allen) Mayers. She was graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.SC. in education and from Teachers College, Columbia University, with a M.A. in music.

Marian taught music in Sandusky and was a music supervisor in the Waterford Twp. schools of Pontiac, Michigan, prior to becoming the elementary music supervisor of the Mansfield City Schools.

She was a member of The First Congregational Church, Life Member of The Ohio State University Alumni Association and member of the Alpha Omicron Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega.

Marian is survived by her loving daughter-in-law Valarie E. Wittemire of Columbus; her sister and brother-in-law Alice (Mayers) & Robert Haines of Dublin; along with many nieces, nephews and grandnieces.

Her parents preceded her in death. Also deceased are her stepmother Mae K. Mayers; her beloved husband LeRoy Wittemire, Jr.; her loving son LeRoy Wittemire, III; a brother Kenneth W. Mayers and a sister Carrie Ellen (Mayers) Metcalfe.

Friends may call Monday, June 13, 2011 from 11 a.m. to Noon in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, 350 Marion Avenue. Her graveside service, officiated by the Rev. Dr. David Hartzfeld, will follow at 12:15 p.m. in Mansfield Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association, and may be made at the funeral home.
