Marian Margaret Havnen, age 86, formerly of Marengo and Mount Gilead, passed away Friday morning, October 31, 2008, at the Tate Hospice House, Linthicum, Maryland.

She was born in Pen Yan, New York, on June 30, 1922, the daughter of the late Niels and Anna (Christianson) Nielson.

On February 1, 1947, Marian married her loving husband of over 36 years, Jarl A. Havnen, who preceded her in death on December 11, 1983.

A former resident of Marengo and Mount Gilead, Ohio, Marian was a long time member of the Morrow County Hospital Silver Twigs and the Mt. Gilead Presbyterian Church. For the past seven years she has resided in Odenton, Maryland.

Marian will be missed by her son, Jack and (Jill) Havnen of Gahanna; two daughters: Jill (Dennis) Richardson of Millersville, MD, and Judy (Dan) Williams of Alexandria, VA; two grandchildren: Tom (Heather) Johnson of Columbus, and Erin (Carlos) Meijia of Leesburg, VA: three great-grandchildren: Evan, Michael, and Christopher; a brother, Paul Nielsen of Columbus, NC; two nephews: Paul (Jennifer) Nielsen and Melvin (Debbie) Nielsen; a niece, Ruth (Kirk) Johnson; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Marian was preceded in death by a son, Michael Havnen; a brother, Arne Nielsen; and a sister-in-law, Teddie Nielsen.

Her family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mt. Gilead, where services celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, with her relative, Associate Pastor Melvin Nielson officiating. Burial will follow in Marengo Cemetery.
