MT. GILEAD: Margueritte Shaffer, went to be with the Lord Saturday, October 20, 2018 in Woodside Village Care Center. She was 91.

She was born October 4, 1927 to parents William & Lena (Rinehart) DePue in Mansfield. After Margueritte was graduated from Johnsville High School with the class of 1945, she went on to study at Mansfield General School of Nursing to become a registered nurse in 1948.

On March 16, 1968, she married Richard Loren “Dick” Shaffer and they shared over 40 wonderful years of marriage until he passed away in 2016. Now they are together again.

Margueritte worked at Mansfield General as an RN, where she worked for over 35 years before retiring. She was a member at Johnsville United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for years. Margueritte also loved to sing and would even sing for weddings

She is survived by daughter Donna (Gerald) Oates of Lexington; son William M. Windsor of Galion; grandchildren Annette Oates, Julie (Don) Detlef and Kelly (Dan) Ferguson; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.


In addition to her loving husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother William DePue and sister Merridelle Sowers.

The Shaffer family will receive friends Friday, October 26, 2018 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where A funeral service honoring Margueritte’s life will begin immediately at 11:30 a.m. Pastor Bill Sowers and the Rev. Ben Weisbrod will speak. Burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery.
