Margie Garris, age 85, of Mt. Gilead, passed away Monday evening, March 7, 2016 at MedCentral Hospital in Mansfield.

She was born October 25, 1930 in Gimlet, KY, the daughter of Mark and Viola (Baer) Cox who precede her in death.

On May 8, 1948, Margie married the love of her life, William V. Garris, who also preceded her in death in August of 2002.

Margie raised her 8 children then began her career as a custodian for HPM before working many years as a custodian in the Mount Gilead School System. She not only raised her kids, but also become “MeMaw” to her grandchildren and many children throughout the community as she babysat for many years.

When Margie wasn’t tending to the needs of little ones, she enjoyed: sewing, gardening, and baking. Her love of gardening included a wide variety of flowers and she could bake a mean apple pie. Margie also loved attending all the different activities the grandkids were in, especially the sporting events.

Margie is survived by 6 daughters and sons-in-law; Linda (Jerry) Efaw, Frieda Garris Moore, Joan Kuhn, Rhonda Garris, Jodi (Doug) Hayes and Kim Garris; 2 sons and daughter-in-law; Jack Garris and Doug (Kim) Garris; sisters: Georgia Cox and Betty (Darrell) Johnson; a brother, Jack (Peggy) Cox; 24 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by 3 sisters; Loval Barker, Glandaween Barth, Louvonna Lewis; and 4 brothers: Stanley, Allen, Nelson, and Earl Cox, and 3 grandchildren.

Family will greet friends and family on Friday, March 11, 2016 from 4 to 8 PM at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel. 67 N. Main St., Mt. Gilead. Services will be held there on Saturday, March 12 at 11 AM with Pastor Galen McLeod officiating. Family will greet friends and family again one hour prior. Burial will follow in Bryn Zion Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice of charity.
