Margaret L. Sanborn, age 82 of Marengo, passed away Wednesday evening, July 14, 2010 at Bennington Glen Care Center in Marengo.

She was born near Brilliant on August 19, 1927 to the late Raymond and Ora (Woode) Schaeffer. A graduate of Athens High School in 1946, she was once employed at the Columbus Blank Book Manufacturing Company. Coming from Columbus, she had resided in Morrow County since 1970. A member of the Marengo United Methodist Church, she sang in the church choir and participated in the United Methodist Women’s Club. For 30 years she helped the American Red Cross with the Bloodmobile and Disaster Services. Because of her dedicated service to the Red Cross, she received the Clara Barton Award.

Her labor of love was sending beautifully hand decorated greeting cards for all occasions to her family members and friends. Devoted to every endeavor, she was a people person. A wonderful cook who’s table was always open, she will be remembered for her famous potato salad and Swiss steak. Margaret collected bells and was fan of the OSU Buckeye football and basketball teams. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and was a fan of Tweety Bird.

She leaves to cherish her memory son: Frank (Denise) Sanborn of Woodstock; daughter: Teara (Kevin) Potter of Cardington; grandchildren: Christopher and Ashley Sanborn, brother Robert (Sandy) Schaeffer of Gahanna, sister Roberta Schaeffer of Columbus, nephew Kenneth Schaeffer and niece Kelly Keith.

She was preceded by her beloved husband of 59 years Franklin on August 18, 2007, brother Raymond Schaeffer, and sister Lucille Ries.

Friends may call Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 73 W. Walnut Street, Marengo. Funeral services will be held Monday 11 a.m. at the Marengo United Methodist Church Family Life Center, 8 N. Main St., Marengo, OH 43334 with Rev. Sue Antolik officiating. Graveside committal service will follow 2:30 p.m. in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
