Margaret Ann Hairston
May 30, 1922 ‒ March 06, 2018
Beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to all who came within her circle of love, Margaret Swanson-Hairston, passed away and went to see her Savior on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Indu and Raj Soin Medical Center in Beaver Creek, Ohio.
Margaret was born on May 30, 1922 in Maybeury, West Virginia to the late Robert and Mattie Phillips-Monroe. She enjoyed people and left a legacy of love.
Margaret retired from F & R Lazarus Company as a credit counselor. A member and mother of Second Baptist Church in Delaware, she served on the scholarship committee and was also a member of the Red Hat Society, National Council of Negro Women, and Source Point.
Her home and heart were always open as she enjoyed helping people. A stranger never met, she was a true conversationalist. Simply put: Margaret defined love. She was an avid traveler who always kept her bags packed in anticipation of a new adventure, an entertainer of friends, and an Uno card shark. Margaret was most proud of her daughters and treasured her grandchildren.
Margaret is survived by two daughters, Vivian (Clarence) Wilson and Brenda Potts; five grandchildren, Tondrea (Kenneth) Freeman, Joyce Wilson, Philip (Yves) Potts, Jay (Noelle) Potts, Clarence (Jaclyn) Wilson II; and five great-grandchildren, Vivian Freeman, Thomas Wilson, Victor Freeman, Ryan Potts, Taylor Potts, River Wilson, and Parker Wilson; two stepchildren, Ronald (Denise) Cross, Jean (Shea) Ward; and step grandchildren, Shauna Pender, Sharief Ward, and Adika (Ariana) Cross; nine step great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends, as well as church family. Margaret will certainly be missed by all.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by the father of her daughters and beloved husband of 39 years, Amos Swanson, in 1978 and her second husband, Ernest Hairston, in 1999.
Services celebrating her life will be held 10:30 am Saturday at Second Baptist Church, 55 Ross St., Delaware, Ohio 43015, where Pastor Michael A. Curtis will preside and her family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 am. Graveside services 10:30 am Monday at Green Lawn Cemetery in Columbus. Arrangements have been entrusted to Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, Delaware.
The family wishes to thank everyone for their expressions of sympathy and kindness during the recent passing of our beloved mother and grandmother. We also wish to thank all the friends, healthcare workers, musicians, pastors, culinary workers, ushers and others for their expressions of love. You are all loved and appreciated.
Special thanks to Pastor Michael A. Curtis and the members of Second Baptist Church as well as the doctors and nursing staff of Indu and Raj Soin Medical Center in Beaver Creek, Ohio..
