Malinda L. Smith, 78, of Mount Vernon passed away on Wednesday morning, December 25, 2019, at the Laurels of Mount Vernon, with her family at her side.  She was born on September 6, 1941, in Marengo, to the late Herbert Eudell and Alice Elizabeth (Winegardner) Franks.

Malinda was a bookkeeper for the former Pamida Store in Mount Gilead and the Ankenytown and Bellville Feed Mills. She enjoyed quilting, doing puzzles, coloring and anything that pertained to artistry.  Malinda’s greatest passion was spending time with her family.

Malinda is survived by her children, Sandra (Mark) Lockwood of Sugar Land, TX, David (Jacque) Smith of Mount Vernon, Bonnie Yarman of Mount Vernon and Kim (Scott) McLaughlin of Westerville; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; sisters, Barbara (Jim) Secrist of Hicksville and Diane (Darren) Bolen of Loudonville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Malinda was preceded in death by her brother, Ralph Franks.

The family will have a private graveside service for Malinda at Saint Johns Cemetery near Mount Vernon.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Knox County, 17700 Coshocton Rd., Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
