Major (Ret.) Robert F. Tarrant (Bob), age 61, died Saturday, April 1, 2017 at his home in Sunbury.
He was born on July 29, 1955 in Evanston, Illinois the son of the late Robert F. and Gwendolyn Fay (Thornton) Tarrant.
While attending the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Bob met Anne Hesselbrock. When a motorcycle accident interrupted their planned nuptials, they married June 7, 1975 in an Oshkosh hospital chapel. After graduation in June 1978, they were commissioned together as United States Army Second Lieutenants.
During their many years of service, Bob and Anne served all over the United States and Germany together. In June 1990, they also received their Masters of Business Administration from Babson College, Wellesley, Massachusetts. Locations included Ft. Riley, Kansas, Nuremberg, Germany, Ft. Knox, Kentucky, and Rock Island, Illinois. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and numerous commendations and citations.
After his military retirement and moving the family to Ohio, he worked for the Franklin County Data Center until 2014 in numerous positions culminating as the Policy and Support Services and Business Account Manager.
Bob loved the outdoors and all it had to offer; fishing, camping in their motorhome, shooting, riding motorcycles, and spending time on the water.
His children described him as adventurous and focused, always curious about the way things worked. He enjoyed tinkering and repair work, bringing life back to old goods. He was also an animal lover and there was always a rescue animal around the house.
He and Anne were members of the Big Walnut Conservation Club and he was a life member of the NRA.
Bob is remembered as a solider, husband, father, brother-in-law, and friend. He will be deeply missed by his wife Major (Ret.) Anne E. Tarrant, their children Robert F., III (Chrissy) of Westerville and Christine of Oakland, California, brothers and sister in-laws around the country, and many friends.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at 3 PM at All Occasions Catering and Banquet Facility, 6989 Waldo-Delaware Road, Waldo, Ohio 43356. Inurnment of cremains with full military honors will take place privately.
