Mabelle J. Friar, 94, of Galion, died Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Mill Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Galion.

Born February 16, 1916 in Newark, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Samuel L. and Louise Myers Johnson. She was preceded in death on October 27, 1990 by her husband, J. Harold Friar, whom she married April 2, 1938.

Mabelle graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1934, Ashland College in 1936 and Ohio Northern University in 1956. She taught kindergarten at North Elementary School in Galion for many years. She especially enjoyed her business, House of Crafts, which she operated from her home on Hetrick Drive. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, the former Naomi Chapter 47, Order of Eastern Star in Galion, the Crawford County Teachers Association and Ohio State Teachers Association.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Susan Friar of Los Alamos, N.M. and Richard and Sally Friar of Montgomery, Ala.; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and one brother, Donald Johnson of N.C.

Mabelle’s family is very grateful for the exceptional care and concern she received from the staff at Mill Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she has resided the last year.

Friends may call from 12 to 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 27, with Rev. Matt Wheeler officiating. Burial will be next to her husband in Mansfield Memorial Park.
