Mabel Mizer, age 93, of Mount Vernon passed away on Friday, August 31, 2012 at the Autumn Health Care in Mount Vernon. She was born on December 19, 1918 in Danville, daughter of the late John and Mina (Stricker) Banbury.
Mabel was a member of the Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church near Mount Vernon. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, gardening, and playing cards, especially euchre.
Mabel is survived by her son, Dan (Linda) Mizer of Groton, New York; daughters, Barbara (Neel) Awwiller of Fredericktown and Connie (Dick) Armstrong of Ashland; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; a sister, Eva Gault of Ashland; brother, Richard (Emma Jo) Banbury of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Nancy Banbury of Danville and Pearl Banbury of North Lawrence; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mabel was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Harley J. Mizer on January 7, 2011; and brothers, Ray and Jack Banbury.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of Mabel’s funeral service at 2p.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church, 11360 Liberty Chapel Rd., Mount Vernon. Rev. Thom Fowler will officiate. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church or the charity of one’s choice in Mabel’s memory.
