Mabel L. Sears

Mabel L. Sears, 87, of Cardington, Ohio died Saturday evening February 25, 2006 at the Morrow Manor Nursing Home.
She was born in La Rue, Ohio on December 30, 1918 a twin daughter of the late Bryan and Edna (Ferguson) Taylor. A graduate of Ashley High School in 1937 she worked for North Electric in Mount Gilead as a line worker during World War II and retired from the Morrow County Auditors Office where she wrote the county payroll by hand. She was also a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Mount Gilead. On March 8, 1963 she married Virgil B. Sears. They spent time together taking long drives enjoying various sites. They would regularly go to Marion for dinner at the Smorgasbord and on to Isley’s for Strawberry Pie. Mabel loved pets especially her Poodles. It was said that she “adopted” her great nephews; Chad and Jeffery as her grandsons.
She is survived by two sons; Floyd Sears of Cardington, Ohio and Larry (Deborah) Sears of Prospect, Ohio, a grand-daughter Jerika Pounds of Delaware, a sister Betty Staley of Mount Gilead, Ohio, nephew, Victor Fleming of Mount Gilead, Ohio, a niece Sandy Creasap of Mount Gilead, Ohio, three great-grandchildren, five great nephews; Chad, Jeffrey, Dale, Brian, and Gary and a great-niece; Beth.
She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil B. Sears on December 8, 1998. A brother John D. Taylor, her twin sister Mona Fleming, and her nephew Gary Staley also preceded her in death.
Friends may call at the Craven Funeral Home, 67 North Main Street, Mount Gilead on Tuesday February 28 from 5-7 PM. Dr. Dennis Schultz will conduct funeral services at the Glendale Cemetery in Cardington on Wednesday at 11:00 AM.
