M. Martha Ashcraft, 79, of Mount Vernon passed away Thursday morning, October 4, 2007, in the Palliative Care Unit at Knox Community Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born on August 1, 1928, in Sunbury, the daughter of the late Roy and Velma (Vickers) Ford.
Martha was retired after many years’ work as a representative for World Book Encyclopedia. She was also a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Mount Vernon. She spent several winters in Winter Haven, Florida, before her heart attack in July 2005, and enjoyed many happy times there.
Martha is survived by her children, Jesse Ashcraft of Lakeside Park, KY, Jerry Ashcraft of Mount Vernon, and Jenny Zolman of Gambier; grandchildren, Jody Zolman and Justin (Amanda) Zolman; and a brother, Charles (Amanda) Ford.
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Vaughn K. Ashcraft and a sister, Geraldine Ford.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 8, at the First Church of the Nazarene on Coshocton Avenue. There will also be a small gathering for staff and residents at Ohio Eastern Star Home on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Martha Ashcraft Memorial Fund in care of Jenny Zolman at the People’s Bank in Gambier. These funds will be used to benefit her friends at Ohio Eastern Star Home.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.
