May 11, 1914 ‒ April 27, 2007
Lula Drake, age 92, of Twp. Rd. 179 in Marengo, died on Friday morning, April 27, 2007, at 6:45 a.m., at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born in Westerville, Ohio, on May 11, 1914, the daughter of the late Albert and Mary Ellen (Adkins) Hager.
On April 27, 1931, Lula married her loving husband of almost 57 years, Ernest R. Drake, in Worthington, Ohio. Together they enjoyed farming and raising their eleven children and three grandchildren. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1988.
Lula was a member of the First Church of God in Fredericktown, and frequented the Seniors on Center in Mount Gilead for food, fellowship, and to play cards. Also, she served as the financial treasurer for the Chesterville Library for over 19 years, and for the T.O.P.S. Club in Chesterville for over 20 years.
A child at heart, Lula loved to play games, cards (especially euchre), bingo anywhere she could, fishing at Knox Lake, and she even bowled in leagues in Fredericktown.
A “rose of many colors,” Lula was an independent woman who gave of herself to others in a very generous and loving way. With patience, she often taught her offspring the many lessons she had learned in her many years.
Her family will forever remember their special Friday nights when family would gather from all over to eat, share stories, and play games.
Lula will be missed by her five sons: Benjamin (Karen) Drake of Fredericktown, Francis Drake of Columbus, Kenneth (Carol) Drake of Delaware, Richard Drake, and John (Bonnie) Drake both of Mount Gilead; six daughters: Roberta Mucci of Naples, Florida, Marjorie Cady of Marion, Helen Fox, Beverly (Lary) Hall, Susan (Ronald) Hewett, all four of Cardington, and Donna (Edward) Sagar of Osceola, Missouri; 38 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers: Herbert, Robert, Albert, Wilbur, and Wallace Hager; and three sisters: Della Baker, Bessie Decot, and Margie Decot.
The family will greet friends on Sunday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Homes, 76 S. Main St., Mount Gilead, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Richard Prater officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of God, 102 Columbus Rd., Fredericktown, Ohio 43019, Hospice of Morrow County, P. O. Box 86, Mount Gilead, Ohio 43338.
