Lucile A. Charles, age 97, of Mount Vernon, died Friday September 26, 2003 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon. She was born May 15, 1906 in Akron, Ohio to Joseph and Anna (Blubaugh) Shuman. Mrs. Charles was the first female taxicab driver in the city of Akron.
She was a member of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon.
Surviving are her daughter Wanda Miller of Danville; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sisters Rose Durbin of Warren, Ohio, Mary Brown and Rita Banbury both of Mount Vernon. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Russell E. Charles, a son Joseph C. Charles, a daughter Marie Celeste Charles and sister Orpha Raasch.
There will be no calling hours. A funeral mass will be Monday at 10 AM at Saint Vincent de Paul Church in Mount Vernon with father Ted Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
