Lowell R. Mackley, age 66 of Sunbury died Monday, December 31, 2007 at Mt. Carmel West in Columbus.

He was born on February 12, 1941 in Maidsville, West Virginia to the late Ray Mackley and Mary M. (Layton) Mackley York. A graduate of the 1959 Class of Big Walnut High School, he was a lifelong resident of the Galena and Sunbury area. Lowell worked as a automotive mechanic with his father, as well as at Kilgores and Western Electric, retiring in 1997 as a mechanic and assistant park manager with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources at Delaware State Park.

Known as an excellent mechanic and for repairing the cars of his many friends, all one had to do was ask; he would know how to fix the problem. He served on the Sunbury Village Council, member of Genoa Baptist Church, and was a charter member of the Sunbury Eagles. He enjoyed golfing and bowling. With a unique personality, he will be remembered for his loving qualities, and the treasured time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survived by his devoted wife of 49 years: Patty (Caldwell), son Dean (Michele) Mackley of Nitro, WV, daughter Robin (George) Helton of Marengo, Grandchildren: Curtis, Randy, Cameron, Joni, Brandon, Great-grandchildren: Christiaan, Cannon, Guage, sister Dixie (Jesse) Rice of Sunbury, brother Bob (Sharon) Mackley of Phoenix, AZ.

Also preceded in death by brother Arthur and sister Liberty.

Friends may call Wednesday 4-7 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR’s 3 at 61 in Sunbury. Funeral services will be Thursday 11:00 a.m. at Genoa Baptist Church, 7562 Lewis Center Rd. at SR 3, Westerville with Pastor Wayne Booth officiating, interment Galena Cemetery.
