Lotche S. Helmick, age 95 of Delaware died Saturday afternoon, November 10, 2001 at Wintersong Village, Delaware.

She was born in Chauncey, Ohio, the heart of Hocking County coal mines, on April 5, 1906. As a child she packed coal miner’s lunch buckets while attending school at Sugar Creek. After learning to sew, she would hitch rides to Portsmouth and worked in the various clothing and shoe factories. She then moved on to Columbus, still sewing shoes and became a costume maker for 3 dance studios.

She married the late Luther Helmick in 1929 and after his death, she moved to the Delaware area in the late 1970’s. Lotche was a member of Hyatts United Methodist Church, former member of Eagle & Moose Lodge’s in Columbus, and enjoyed sewing.

Survived by daughter: Virginia “Ginny” & Phil Trotter Sr. of Delaware, 2 Grandsons: Phil Jr., Mark (Kathy) Trotter, 4 Great-grandchildren: Kathleen, Sarah, Kevin (Misty), Micha, 2 Great-great-grandsons: Sebastian & Trevor.

Friends may call Tuesday 5-8 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St. (SR 36), Delaware, where funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11:00 a.m., Rev. Tim Reeves officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Columbus.
