Lorene “Aunt Lorene” Cornwell Thurman

Lorene “Aunt Lorene” Cornwell Thurman, age 96, of Delaware, OH and formerly of Litchfield, Illinois died Thursday evening, February 12, 2004 at Grady Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Olean, Missouri on Feb. 14, 1907 to the late David and Sarah (Kingery) Mulvaney. Lorene worked as seamstress for St. John’s Hospital in St. Louis and assisted at Meinschein Funeral Home in Litchfield, Illinois from 1975 – 1986. She attended of the Belle Ave. Church of Christ in Christian Union in Delaware and was a member of Union St. Christian Church in Litchfield. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, walking, and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her nephew and caretaker, William & Jean Klick of Delaware with whom she lived for the past eight years, nieces, Alice (Harold) Bradshaw of Lockesburg AK, Carol (Bill) Moody of Cape Clair MO, and Norma (Jim) Alford of Texas, sister-in-law; Irene Moon of Peoria, IL., numerous great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and step-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 42 years; Albert Cornwell, who died on Dec. 24, 1974, her second husband; William Thurman, who died May 27, 1993, brothers; Herbert and Wayne Mulvaney, sisters; Oneita Brooks and Mary Lydia Klick, several step-children and a niece; Gladys McGee.

Friends may call Monday from 4-6 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware, where funeral services will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. David Cyrus, Pastors Marty Adams, and David Minniear officiating.

Graveside services will take place Tuesday 1:30 p.m. at Elm Lawn Cemetery, in Litchfield, Illinois with Jay Ritter officiating.
