Delaware formerly of Marion, Ohio

Loren Joseph Vachon, age 78 of Delaware, died peacefully surrounded by his family Friday, August 2, 2013 in Delaware.

He was born on May 5, 1935 in Benton Harbor, MI to the late Noah Henry and Analda Marie (Trembly) Vachon. Growing up on the shores of Lake Michigan, he loved the lake and the St. Joseph light house. It was while he was a life guard on those waters that he met the love of his life, Shirley Jean Longacre. Together they have been happily married for 56 years.

Loren graduated from St. Johns High School in 1953. He earned an Associates of Arts Degree from Lake Shore Junior College in 1955. For over 45 years he worked in manufacturing as an engineer and administrator. He met his goal of obtaining a Bachelors of Science and Business Administration from Franklin University in 1978. He continued his education completing classes towards his master’s degree.

He was a devout Catholic, his faith giving his life meaning, purpose, and guidance. A lifelong member of the Catholic Church most recently St. Mary Church in Delaware.

Passionate about his family history, he had been researching his genealogy for nearly 50 years. Just in the past two months, he fulfilled his dream of locating the origins of his family in La Copechagniere, France.

Loren was a dedicated provider for his family, always working harder and making the most of his career. During that time, he never lost sight of his top priority, his family. With a good sense of humor, he also enjoyed fishing and working around his home. Throughout his travels, his heart remained in Michigan.

He leaves a legacy of love for his family as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather which he demonstrated every day in thought, word and deed. He will be remembered for his lessons on how to live a good life; being true to family, self, and God.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife Shirley, children Robin (Robert) Vachon-Kraut of Columbus, Mark (Lisa) Vachon of Columbus, Lisa (Scott) Early of Delaware, 7 grandchildren Ian (Lindsay) Kraut and Emily Kraut, Lindsay and Matthieu Vachon, Rian and Aron Early, Josh (Tabbi) Early, sister Marie Zelvis of St. Joe, MI.

He was also preceded in death by brother Lawrence and sister Laurel Finehout.
