Lonnie Newton Coburn, 85, of Galion, died Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Mill Creek Nursing Center in Galion after an extended illness.
Born April 16, 1929 in Scioto County, Ohio, he was the son of Henry C. and Mary “Mayme” (Hackworth) Coburn. He married Rose Marie Klein on August 31, 1974 and she recently preceded him in death January 10, 2014. He was previously married to Ada Lois Conley and she preceded him in death.
Lonnie was previously a baseball manager for the Del Rice League in Portsmouth. He enjoyed playing piano by ear. His faith was very important to him and he served God by being a lay minister.
He is survived by son and spouse Robert E. and Nancy Coburn of Conifer, CO; daughter, Sonja Jean Schilling of Bucyrus; step-son and daughter-in-law, Edward Howard and Connie Tennis of Galion; two step-daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Mitchell Petty of Mt. Gilead and Sharon and John Sampsel of Mansfield; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a sister Catherine Sparks of Galion.
In addition to his parents, and wife Rose, he is preceded in death by a step-son Tom Tennis; brothers, Estil, Henry and Bill Coburn and a sister Fern Henderson.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Southview Baptist Church, 6904 Crawford Morrow County Line Road, Galion, OH 44833, with Thorny Artrip and Robert Coburn officiating.
