Lois Evelyn Osborn
May 07, 1919 ‒ February 11, 2008
Mount Gilead, Ohio
Lois Evelyn (McCracken) Osborn, age 88, formerly of West Marion Street, Mount Gilead, passed away Monday evening, February 11, 2008, at the Scioto Retirement Community following an extended battle with dementia.
On May 7, 1919, Lois was born in Harmony Township of Morrow County to the late Cleo Marguerite Foust and Brice Lee McCracken, who lived on a small farm on the Cardington-Chesterville Road.
Lois attended first and second grades at the Chesterville School before moving to Mount Gilead, where she attended school until she was married.
At the age of 16, on March 7, 1936, Lois married her loving husband of nearly 70 years, Charles Robert “Bob” Osborn, in Greenup, Kentucky. Together they raised four children. He unexpectedly preceded her in death nearly two years ago on February 4, 2006.
To Lois, her family was everything. She deeply loved her family and her family loved her.
For all of her family and friends, Lois never forgot a birthday or holiday, always taking time to let them know she cared.
In her spare time, Lois enjoyed painting, sewing, and crocheting.
With a heart of gold, Lois was active in the community through volunteer work at the Red Cross, Woodside Village, and as a Silver Twig at the Morrow County Hospital. Also, she was a member of the Morrow County Republican Party.
Lois was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. For the past two years, her Friendship Class sent a signed church bulletin to her every week after she moved to Carriage Court Assisted Living in Grove City. It offered great comfort to her as a connection to Mt. Gilead.
While at Carriage Court, Lois truly enjoyed life. The staff and residents loved her dearly and gave her the endearing nickname “pretty lady.” They and her family will sorely miss her.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters: Rosemary (John) Barkes of Grove City, Ohio, and Karen (Jerry) Newman of Cincinnati, Ohio; one son, Dan (Debbie) Osborn of Knoxville, Tennessee; eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Lois was preceded in death by her son, Charles Ronald Osborn, and three brothers: Otis Perry, who fell from an apple tree as a child, Ward and Jay McCracken.
Her family will greet friends on Friday from 4 – 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Ron Heasley officiating. Burial will be held in Rivercliff Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 75 E. High St., Mt. Gilead, Ohio 43338.
