Lloyd E. Brodin, 90, died February 6, 2017. He died peacefully, with family nearby, under the excellent and loving care of the nurses and aides of Arbors at Mifflin, and the wonderfully compassionate team from Southern Care Hospice.

Born in Omaha, Nebraska, January 23, 1927, Lloyd was a life-long Huskers fan. Having lived in Ohio for over 50 years, he became a fan of Ohio State as well. He graduated from Pratt School of Individual Instruction High School in Omaha, and served in the US Marine Corps in WWII, 1944-1947.

Lloyd held sales positions with Northern-Pacific Railroad, Sabena Belgian World Airlines, American Express, First National Bank Travel Service, and was owner of York Tours & Travel from 1984 until retirement in 1990. In retirement, Lloyd volunteered more than 6,000 hours for American Red Cross, Bridge the Gap, and MedCentral, and received numerous awards for his volunteer service and commitment to helping others. He enjoyed camping, bicycling, woodworking and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, parents and brothers and sisters.

Lloyd is survived by his children: Patricia Grant and husband Jeff of Kalispell, Montana, Rob Brodin and fiance’ Heidi Tyson of Mansfield, Dave Brodin and wife Tiffany of Bloomington, Indiana, step-sons Bob Thorn and wife Theresa of North Canton, and Ronald Thorn and wife Kathleen of Blacklick, his former wife, Sherry Caris of Mercedes, Texas, and sister-in-law Connie Brodin of Springfield, Missouri. Grandchildren include Asa Grant, Isaac Grant, Juliana Brodin, Corinne Thorn, Mary Mayhew, Samuel Thorn, Melissa Willson, Matthew Thorn, Lindsay Amato, and 8 greatgrandchildren.

Lloyd’s family will be receiving friends from 4-7 pm, Monday, February 13, 2017 in the Lexington Ave. Snyder Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lloyd’s memory may be made to American Red Cross at the funeral home or mailed to 39 N. Park St., Mansfield, OH 44902 (make checks payable to Red Cross).

  • I didn’t know Lloyd but knew of him through his sister, Eileen. She was my sister-in-law. Guess he is the last of that generation. Blessings to all the survivors.
