May 10, 1914 ‒ April 30, 2010
Winter Garden, Florida and previously of Marion, Ohio
Lillian Danner, age 95, of Winter Garden, FL, and previously of Marion, died late Friday evening, April 30, 2010, following an extended illness.
Lillian was born May 10, 1914 in Marion, Ohio to Earl Edwin and Clara Maude (Guthery) Thomas. While most of her life was spent in Marion, the last 20 years of her life she had many great adventures while following her children to New Mexico, Memphis, Atlanta and Minneapolis. The past eight years, she has lived in Orlando, Florida where she was proud to have spent time in the company of Mickey Mouse.
The artisan skills that Lillian had were second to none. Up until the two weeks of her life, she was crocheting scarves and cutting fabric to donate to two Marion churches for mission quilts. Among her greatest skills was the ability to create museum quality hooked rugs after studying for many years under the Master Hooker, Pearl McGown. As a young woman, Lillian ran a yarn shop in Marion. It was during that time that she was published as the designer of a knit dress for Bernat Yarn Company. Throughout her life she has always had a ball of yarn near by. Her beautiful baby sweaters sold at a store in Minnesota and continue to sell in a store in Memphis, Tennessee. Her talented mind and hands were never idle. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy and wonderful memories for the family and friends.
Lillian grew up as a member of Epworth Methodist Church and remained a member of Epworth until she and her husband were part of the founding families of Community Methodist Church in Marion. She was proud to tell the story of being a Methodist her entire life and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Orlando at the time of her death.
Including her parents, Lillian was preceded in death by her husband of over forty years, Jack Danner (Danner Buick Company) whom she had married on October 2, 1937 in Marion, and her two brothers: Harker and Paul Thomas.
She is survived by three children: Carol Smith (Richard Smith), Orlando, Florida, June Thompson (Linda Bowers), Orlando, Florida and Tom Danner (Vikki Fanello), Marion. She was the proud grandmother of Nancy Smith Lagermeier (Dan) Minneapolis, Minnesota; Cynthia Smith Matthews (Bobby) Chicago, Illinois; Spencer Thompson (Lauren) Columbia, Missouri; Marty Thompson, Houston, TX; Nikole Danner Holman (Matt) Marion and Danielle Danner Miller (Rylee) Marion. Lillian loved each of the eight great grandchildren; Peter Lagermeier, Jack Lagermeier, Sarah Grace Matthews, Megan Lagermeier, Grant Matthews, Ella Thompson, Braelyn Miller and Annie June Thompson. Her extended family included her loving caregivers, Jean Moore and Cynthia Juzwiak.
Lillian entered heaven with great anticipation of once again being with family who preceded her in death and her dearest friend on earth, Margaret Eicher.
Friends may call on the family on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, from 10-11 a.m. at the Crosswood United Methodist Church, 1551 Richland Road, Marion where services celebrating her life will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Rodney Wallace officiating.
