L. Merlin Schroeder, age 81 of Marion formerly of Marengo died Friday morning, November 16, 2001 at SunBridge Care Facility in Marion.

He was born on June 27, 1920 in Beloit, WI to the late Charles and Julia (Hackett) Schroeder. US Army veteran of WW II. Lewis moved to Marion in 1997 from Marengo. He worked as a outreach liaison for Seniors on Center in Mt. Gilead for the past 10 years and had owned and operated the former Village Shoppe in Marengo for 16 years. Member of the Church of Christ, Marion, Ambassadors Sunday school Class, American Legion Post #97, Cardington.

Survived by his wife of 29 years: Mary Alice Davis Webb Schroeder, Sons: Larry (Debbie) Schroeder of Walworth, WI, Gary (Eva) Schroeder of Elkhorn, WI, Daughter: Trudie Ernest of Redwing, MN, Step-sons: Tom (Zeenat) Webb of Delaware, Terry Webb of Orient, Bob (Lori) Webb of Columbus, Mark (Tammi) Webb of Huber Heights, Step-Daughter: Kim (Curt) Grau of Duncan, SC, 29 Grandchildren, 12 Great-grandchildren, Brother: H. Wayne Schroeder of Beloit, Ill., 45 Foster Children.

Preceded in death by sisters: Thelma Cutts, Hazel Brandenburg, Vivian Stickler Garde

Friends may call Sunday 2-5 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury, where funeral services will be held Monday 10:00 a.m.. Phil Williams, Minister officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Bloomfield Cemetery, near Sparta.
