Lewis James Ferris, age 85, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Friday, January 30, 2004, at the Laurels of Mt. Vernon. He was born January 31, 1918, in Licking County, Ohio the son of Grant and Maud (Shepherd) Ferris and had been a resident of the Mt. Vernon area all of his life. Lewis had served as a Medical Technician in the United States Army during WWII in the European Theater. He worked for Shellmar/Continental Can/Ludlow for 42 ½ years until retiring in February of 1983, and was a member of the Woods Christian Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Hazel H. (Durbin) Ferris, whom he married October 18, 1940, a son Arthur Dean Ferris of Mt. Vernon, 2 daughters; Linda Frazee of Mt. Vernon and Norma (Gary) Dickerson of Howard, 5 grandsons, 2 great-grandsons, 2 step-great-grandchildren, and a close friend, Leon Williams of Utica.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters and special friends; Leonard Brown, Lester Kreider and Reginald Folden.
Friends may call on Monday, February 2, 2004 from 5-7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Thomas Booth officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens.
