Lewis Carlson Jones, age 81, of Mount Vernon died on Monday evening, September 26, 2011 at his home. He was born on February 18, 1930 in Hagerstown, MD, son of the late Howard W. and Helen M. (Stouffer) Jones.
Lewis was an Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict and earned the rank of Staff Sargent. He retired from the United States Government and was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees in Newark. He was also a member of the Gospel Four Square Church in Mount Vernon and the American Legion. Lewis was an avid bowler and bowled in leagues in Mount Vernon, Fredericktown, and Newark. He participated in the Senior Olympics winning Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals in bowling and shuffle board. Lewis enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Lewis is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Patricia A. (Davis) Jones; daughters, Nancy Lynn Jones of Mount Vernon, Jennifer (Tim) Houck of Carrollton, GA, Mary Jane (Tom) Hasenzahl of Richmond, VA, Carole (Jeff) Miller of Mount Vernon, and Linda Brown of Mount Vernon; sons, John E. Jones of Camden, TN, Brian E. (Maggie) Jones of Findlay, and David McCoy of Mount Vernon; 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; and sister, Nancy (Andrew) Molnar of Woodbine, MD.
In addition to his parents, Lewis was preceded in death by a grandson, Benjamin Jones and a brother, Jack Jones.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 30, 2011 with Pastor Jerry Morgan officiating. The family will receive friends also on Friday one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
