Les Hildebrand

LEXINGTON: Leslie Dale “Les” Hildebrand, 70, of Lexington, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2018 in OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital following an extended illness.

The son of Trent and Helen (Lewis) Hildebrand, Les was born October 17, 1948 in Bucyrus and graduated from Northmor High School in 1967.

Les began dating Jane Swisher while in high school.  The two were married on February 22, 1969.

A United States Army veteran, Les served in the Vietnam War.  He was honorably discharged on June 17, 1970.  Les was a lifetime member of the VFW, and lifetime member of AmVets Post #31.

An outdoors kind of guy, Les enjoyed fishing, boating and camping.  He had a keen eye for finding wild mushrooms and enjoyed mushroom hunting each spring.  Les was always working on woodworking projects.  He loved to play euchre, especially with family.

Les is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Jane; sons Jason (Glenda) Hildebrand of Columbus and Jim (Tammy) Hildebrand of Lexington; five grandchildren Cassandra, Hannah, Franklin, Tristen, and Hailey Hildebrand; great grandson Sebastian Geurrero; half brother Jerry Kottyan of Bucyrus, sisters Sherry Spires of Georgia and Emily (Dave) Burggraf of Las Vegas, Nevada, brothers Roger (Terri) Hildebrand of Tennessee and Kurt Hildebrand of South Carolina; as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Dennis Hildebrand.

Les’s family will receive friends Friday, December 28, 2018 from 12 pm – 2 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where funeral services will begin at 2 pm.  Burial with military honors performed by the Bellville American Legion Post #535 will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to, Snyder Funeral Homes, may be made through the funeral home to assist the Hildebrand family with funeral expenses.

  • les hildebrand was a special friend of mine since about 1965 when he and his dad trent ran the sohio station in johnsville. we played some independent basketball on the same team for a few years. our friendship grew through the years and he and jane became very special friends with emma and i.. he was a loyal friend and a great family man and that family always came first. we will miss him. i do know that the person who always cared about others is walking with jesus as i am writing this. we are praying for jane and his family through this hard time of grieving. jesus must need one of the greatest mechanics of all time so he came and got my special friend les hildebrand. jane we love you all. butch and emma chipps
