Leroy E. “Roy” Teets

May 16, 1929 ‒ October 25, 2019

Marion, Ohio

Leroy E. “Roy” Teets, age 90, of Marion, died peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2019, at home surrounded by his loving family following an extended illness.

On May 16, 1929, Roy was born in Marion, Ohio, the third of four children of the late Ernest William and Anna Margarent (Timmons) Teets.  He was raised in St. Mary Church and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in the class of 1947.

Shortly following graduation, Roy was drafted to serve his country in the US Army, a veteran of the Korean War.

When Roy was 15 years old, a new neighbor moved in across the street, Betty Tolle.  He finally met her during a playful game of hide and seek, and soon thereafter Roy told Betty he “would marry her someday.”  From there, the rest was history.  They were married after he served in the military on April 11, 1953.  Together they shared sixty six special years of marriage.

For forty two years, Roy worked at Quaker Oats in Marion, primarily as a fork lift operator.  He retired in 1991.

With a love for the outdoors, Roy went hunting, fishing and camping as often as he could.  He loved shooting his bow, going to the Bow Range in Delaware for target practice several days a week.  His family has especially fond memories of their time spent in their camper at Getaway Lakes in Bellefontaine.

An avid bicycle rider, Roy loved riding his bike for miles and miles.  He often rode his bike from Marion to the Columbus Zoo.  When he was 75 years old, he was proud to have rode 1500 miles on his bike that year.

Very particular about his home, Roy enjoyed tending to his lawn and caring for every inch of his property.

A family man, Roy was “a wonderful husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa.”

Roy will be missed by his beloved wife, Betty Teets of Marion; four children: Roy “Gene” Teets, Kathy (Randy) Bush, Tammy (Mike Swan) Teets, all three of Marion, and Timmy (Theresa) Teets of Royce City, TX; four grandchildren: Christopher (Ashley) Teets, Jennifer (Rocky Maniaci) Teets, Amy (Ryan) Caldwell, and Kim (Brad) Dodd; 8 great-grandchildren: Kaylee and Emilee Teets, Prestyn Smith, Amiah Maniaci, Brianna and Brittney Caldwell, Jordan Bush, and Isabella Dodd; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including his parents, Roy was preceded in death by three siblings: Margaret Brown, Robert Teets, and Mike Teets.

Services in Roy’s memory will be observed privately by his family.

Memorial contributions may be made Homeless to Home Animal Rescue and Cat Sanctuary, 1745 Marion-Waldo Rd, Marion, OH 43302.
