Leota L. Buxton Phillips, age 71, of Mount Vernon, died Friday November 15, 2002 at the Country Court Nursing Home in Mount Vernon. Leota was born December 10, 1930 at Bladensburg to Clay and Arlie (Berry) Totten and had spent her lifetime in the Knox and Coshocton County areas. She was retired from the Mount Vernon Developmental Center in Mount Vernon where she had been employed 11 years.

Leota was a faithful member of the Covenant Christian Church of God in Mount Vernon.

Surviving are her husband Richard Phillips whom she married December 12, 1987; her son Richard Buxton of Coshocton; two daughters Kathy (Joe) Mapes of Mount Vernon and Ethel (Mike) Mapes of Ovid, Michigan; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; her brother Harold (Helen) Totten of Walhonding and 2 sisters Faye (Bob) Norman of Coshocton and Lena Squires of Sun City, Arizona. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband George Buxton and 2 sisters Zella Milligan and Grace Shoults.

Friends may call Monday from 5 to 7 PM at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon where funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 AM with Rev. Greg Browning officiating. Burial will follow at the New Guilford Cemetery.
