Leona G. James, 91, of Co. Rd. 23, Mt. Gilead, Ohio died Sunday, November 26, 2000 in Village Care Center in Galion.
She was born in Shauck, Ohio on November 7, 1909, the daughter of the late Cliff and Roby Belle Rinehart James. She graduated from Chesterville High School in 1928 and attended Marion Business College. She worked for the Pulaskiville General Store and Felds Real Estate Office in Marion. Leona spent most of her life in the Chesterville area where she was a devoted mother and homemaker, helping operate the family farm. In later life, she served as a companion and housekeeper for Mrs. Doran in Mt. Gilead. She was a member of the Waterford Church of Christ, the Morrow County Historical Society, and the Chesterville and Mt. Gilead Senior Citizens.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Richard E. & Fabianita James of Toledo, OH; four daughters and two sons-in-law Ramona & Carl Mercer of Perrysburg, OH, Charlotte Campbell of Crestline, OH, Kathleen & Sam Darnell of Franklin Furnace, OH, and Jeannine Reed of Mansfield, OH; 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and a sister Wenonah Caton of Olena, OH.
Her husband Charles T. James, whom she married Nov. 12, 1940, preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 1964. Brother’s Leon, Fleetwood and Lorin James also preceded her in death.
Friends may call at the Craven Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead on Wednesday from 4 – 8 p.m. Raymond Linn will officiate funeral services will there Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville.
