Leona A. Thatcher Auten, age 95, formerly of Oak Street, Mt. Vernon, died Sunday, May 19, 2002 at the Laurels of Mt. Vernon. Leona was born January 6, 1907 in Knox County to William and Frances E. (Beam) Kelley and had spent her lifetime in Mt. Vernon area.She retired in 1972 from the S.S. Kresge Company in Mt Vernon after 38 years of faithful service. Leona was a member of Saint Vincent de Paul Church in Mt. Vernon.
Surviving are her two daughters, Olive M. (Michael) White of Tampa, Florida; and Barbara A. (Charles) Flynn of Mt. Vernon; 8 grandchildren, Brenda (Bill) Heagy, Robert (Anita) Flynn, Christina (Mark) Whitacre, Craig (Lis) Flynn, Mike (Kathy) White, Derrick White, Dawn White and Tammy Hutchinson; 17 great grandchildren and a great great grandchild. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Harry C. Thatcher in 1937, her second husband Kenneth Auten in 1996, a granddaughter Lynda White, a great grandson Andrew Hanchey, her brother Herman Kelley and her sister Mary Morrow.
Friends may call on Wednesday, May 22, 2002, from 4:00-7:00PM at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home where a Rosary service will be held at 7:00PM. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday 10:00 A.M.
at the Saint Vincent de Paul Church with Father Theodore Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
