Lee Edward Maples, 79, of Delaware, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday April 8, 2012. He was born April 20, 1932 in Bristol, Virginia to Wade and Roxie (Hurst) Maples. He was raised in New Tazewell, Tennessee along with his 7 brothers and 2 sisters, Don, Fleet, Dean, Joe, Bob, Carl, and Mike Maples and Cindy Russell and Jenny Williams. On October 15, 1955 in New Tazewell, TN, Lee married the love of his life Darlene (Iery) Maples and they were married 56 years. They shared 4 children, Rick Maples, Peggy (Gary) Graham, Connie (Randy) Helton, and Kim Maples; 5 grandchildren, Jeremy and Julia Helton, Joey Westbrook, Jarrod Stewart, and Chelsea Hewitt; 5 great grandchildren, Dylan and Alexa Westbrook, Abbey and Logan Helton, and Jeffrey Stewart. Lee was a heavy equipment operator for many years and he was also a member of the Grace Baptist Church, Delaware. He is well known as an avid golfer. He loved everything that was golf related, playing, watching, collecting, it was his passion. Lee was the most loving man and touched the lives of everyone he met. He was a family man and loved his family with all his heart. He adored watching his grandchildren play at ball games and dance at recitals. He also enjoyed listening to country and bluegrass music. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and is forever loved and will be missed dearly. The family will receive friends on Wednesday April 11th from 4 – 8 pm at the Rodman Neeper Funeral Home, 1510 W. William Street at Valleyside Drive, Delaware and where funeral services will be held on Thursday April 12th at 10:00 am with Rev. Dr. Corey Bane officiating. Burial will follow in Ashley Union Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the American Lung Association in his memory.
