Lawrence Paul Schreck, 83, of Galion, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010 at home.

Born May 9, 1926 in Galion, he was the son of the late Arthur D. and Norma Gelsanliter Schreck. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Earl Schreck whom he married Dec. 18, 1950.

Lawrence was a graduate of Galion High School in 1944, attended Gettysburg College and graduated from Ashland College in 1951. He was a World War II U. S. Navy veteran, member of American Legion, Scarbrough Post 243, and First Lutheran Church in Galion. Lawrence taught in Hartland School in Huron County and Galion City Schools and loved the time he spent with his students. He was happiest flying his plane and enjoyed his farm, boating, family and friends. Lawrence was a good Christian man and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry, Jr. and Dorcas Schreck of Galion and Frank and Andrea Schreck of Westerville; one daughter and son-in-law, Julia and Ron Conn of Mansfield; six grandchildren, Lori, Lawrence II, Joshua, Hilary, Vanessa and Janelle; 10 great- grandchildren; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Art, Jr. and Lillian Schreck of Albuquerque, N.M., Ted and Ann Schreck of Galion, Jimmy Schreck of Rochester, Penn. and David and Caryl Schreck of Marion, N.C.; one sister and brother-in-law, Katie and Rich Venator of Port Charlotte, Fla. and many other in-laws and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Malcolm Schreck and two sisters, Miriam Muntean and Jayne Wilson.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 2010 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, with Rev. Matt Wheeler officiating. Full military honors will be held at the time of services by the U.S. Navy and the Galion/Crestline area veteran’s organizations.
